A peaceful protest march was planned in downtown Hayward on the day that Oscar Grant III, who was shot in January by a BART police officer, turned 23. The march snaked through downtown Hayward, causing rush hour traffic delays, and ended on the doorsteps of City Hall under the watchful eye of the police.
